美國對中共鷹派人士、參議員喬什‧霍利（Josh Hawley）指出，此次逮捕是中國（中共）對言論自由採取零容忍態度的證據。
霍利在推特上說：「香港（＃HongKong）發行人（黎智英）因長期以來，敢於公然反對中國共產黨（#ChineseCommunistParty）而被捕，實際上（他）僅僅是因為敢於報導新聞（而被捕）。」
「這是中國（中共）想強加於世界的『言論自由』。」他諷刺地說。

參議員里克‧斯科特（Rick Scott）也發推說，中國共產黨及其在香港的傀儡繼續噤聲和恐嚇讓那些為民主和人權呼籲的人。

國安法任意執法 且荒謬和殘酷
路透社報導，記者保護協會亞洲計劃協調員史蒂芬·巴特勒（Steven Butler）在一份聲明中說：「媒體大亨黎智英的被捕，最令人們擔心的是，香港的國家安全法將被用來壓制民主意見，並限制新聞自由。」
「黎智英應該立即被釋放，所有指控都應被撤銷。」巴特勒寫道。
成立於美國首都華盛頓的海外港人組織「Hong Kong Democracy Council US（HKDC）」發推說，美國和世界必須保持警惕，並對基於港版國安法的每一次逮捕行動發聲。全世界都在看。
